Authoring Guidelines

We are always interested in ISEEK Spotlight contributions from our readers. If you have written a timely article about workforce development, skills training or other relevant news, we will review it for publication. Our site visitors are drawn to trends and tips for finding work, as well as business and education training opportunities. Career explorers are particularly interested in reading about what a typical day is like in certain occupations. If you have information about these topics, or would like to contribute an article about a specific program or event, please contact us. Contributors are encouraged to follow these authoring guidelines:

  • Target job seekers and career explorers as the primary audience of your story.
  • Keep counselors, parents and students in mind as another important audience group.
  • Make the information relevant to residents of Minnesota.
  • Make the information relevant to the current political and economic environment.
  • Introduce the core of your story in the first paragraph because we often promote the first sentences on the home page. In addition, ISEEK Spotlight stories appear in other related publications on the web and in Minnesota Workforce Center newsletters and are similarly promoted.
  • Prefer the active voice (e.g. "the students learn" rather than "the students are being taught") whenever possible.
  • Keep your story between between 400 and 1000 words.
  • Feel free to include images that you think might enhance your message. Keep your images to 200x150 pixels.
  • Feel free to include additional resources, such as addresses of related web sites.

Send your story in a word document and any images you would like to add to nancy.soohoo@iseek.org. We look forward to reading it. Thank you for sharing your news with ISEEK!
