Metropolitan Federation of Alternative Schools
The Metropolitan Federation of Alternative Schools (MFAS) is an alliance of community-based nonprofit organizations that operate small alternative school sites in the Twin Cities area. Their goal is to assist at-risk students in attending schools that help them develop to their full potential. This page is a list of federation member schools.

Recertification and re-licensure of international degrees and professional certifications
Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS)
The CGFNS Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) analyzes the credentials of multiple types and levels of healthcare professionals educated outside of the United States, or with an international educational background, who wish to pursue a healthcare professional degree in the United States for the purpose of licensure. The CES report analyzes education and licensure in terms of comparability to U.S. standards and expectations. Their evaluation carefully assesses documents to verify and appraise an applicant’s educational and registration/licensure credentials. CGFNS also offers programs required by the majority of the U.S. Boards of Nursing in order to obtain registration/licensure as a nurse in the United States.
Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
Medical schools outside the United States and Canada vary in educational standards, curriculum, and
evaluation methods. The purpose of ECFMG Certification is to assess the readiness of international medical graduates to enter U.S. residency and fellowship programs that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

This guide, provided by World Education Services (WES), features suggested grade conversions for higher education in more than 120 countries.
National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)
NACES members serve foreign-educated persons who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States and who are seeking further education, professional licensure, or employment in the United States. They provide expertise on the educational systems, institutions, programs, and documents of other countries. NACES member organizations examine documents for accuracy and authenticity. Reports include information about the credential awarded and the U.S. equivalency.
World Education Services (WES)
The WES evaluation converts educational credentials from any country in the world into their U.S. equivalents. It describes each certificate, diploma or degree that you have earned and states its academic equivalency in the United States. WES works with individual applicants as well as with educational institutions, attorneys, licensing boards, employers and government agencies throughout the U.S. WES is a not-for-profit and 501-C-3 service-based organization. In addition to credential evaluations, WES fulfills its mission by providing training workshops for admissions professionals.

Education projects, resources, and services
Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM)
ILCM provides free comprehensive immigration services to low-income persons of all nationalities who are ineligible for federally funded legal services programs. ILCM also provides education, training and outreach to other professionals and the community at large in immigration affairs. Most of ILCM’s work is done in Saint Paul and the surrounding Ramsey County communities. However, educational outreach is concentrated in the entire Twin Cities metropolitan area.
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)
International Student and Scholar Services is dedicated to serving the University of Minnesota's international community. ISSS supports the University's international efforts by helping departments to bring new foreign nationals to the four campuses and communities; by providing intercultural training for students, staff, and faculty; and by offering events that build links between the U.S. and international campus communities. The International Student Hand Book is also available on their website.
La Oportunidad, Inc.
Provides bilingual and culturally relevant education and support to Latino children, youth, adults, and families, located in Minneapolis. Services include intervention and skill-building for high school and middle school students, prevention of domestic violence for adult males, parenting groups, and K-5 school-based programs.
NAFSA: Association of International Educators
The Association promotes the exchange of students and scholars to and from the United States. Members share a belief that international educational exchange advances learning and scholarship, builds respect among different peoples, and encourages constructive leadership in a global community.
